I figured that we editors deserve a little place to show off our work--or if there's an AMV editor that you really admire, maybe you can share their work with us? C'mon, let's talk about AMVs. Here's one of the ones I made a while ago. =3= My YouTube is SharkySammich if you're interested, I edit a lot of different things. xD

Also, anyone who's been in the AMV contests for Fannatiku in the past should totally post their old entries here. xD I always love rewatching stuff I saw at the con.

Question to all the AMV people. What programs to you use to edit these? I'm looking into trying to get an inexpensive video editing program.

^^; I use Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. I think Vegas can run you anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks, though, depending on the version and the extra effects you purchase so...not really inexpensive. xD

But I do know that WMM, or iMovie for macs, is pretty good. There's also something called Final Cut that I've never personally used, but I hear it's alright. If you're looking into buying Vegas or something similar, go for a non-pro version (they come in professional and just normal) and I think it's cheaper. Also, if you purchase an older version it might be cheaper (they're to version 10 now.)

I worked with final cut some at school. Its pretty awesome, but as far as I know its one of those industry standards like After Effects, so kind of pricey. The old version of WMM works ok for me, but even on high settings the compression on them makes me sad. (Plus its freaking slow.)
I gotta find how to get some good raws. Even if I own the DVDs the dang protections get in the way of me getting them. *grumblecakes*

yeah, it is an industry standard program. there's a free one out there called lightworks... supposedly industry standard, and you can use the same shortcuts for final cut or avid with it.... google it for more info....
and yeah, i hear ya on getting the raw stuff. it's not easy.

Ooo I remember reading up on lightworks a looooong time ago. They weren't even close to the beta yet. I'll have to give it a try.
I hate that they set up so many protections that you cant even pull some thing off of it for what is considered "fair use". They complain so much about pirating but they get in the way of people who legally purchases it so much that they are pushing them towards pirating. I would much rather be legal about things, but even I'm thinking of doing it.

What do you use right now to try and rip your DVDs? I might be able to help you get a better program. There's a program I use to rip stuff off of DVDs....uhm....crap I can't remember what it's called. xD I'll get back to you when I can get down to the other computer.
If you're looking for something a little more technical (but still free, last time I checked!) Check out Zwei-Stein or Wax. They've got the multiple tracks like Sony Vegas and I hear Zwei-Stein has a lot of different effect options.

Just Nero, but 90% of my attempts run into the protection issue.
I think I tried Zwei-Stein, but had problems with the interface.
